Organisers of yesterday’s Sound Relief concerts have estimated that the event has raised $5 million in aid of Victoria’s bushfire victims and those affected by the Queensland floods. More than 120,000 music fans flocked to two huge simultaneous gigs staged at the Melbourne and Sydney cricket grounds.
Kylie flew in especially from London to perform as master of ceremonies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where the 80,000 strong crowd were officially the biggest paying audience ever at an Australian concert or charity event. All profits from the Melbourne ticket sales will go to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Fund Appeal, while profits from the Sydney concert will be split between the Victorian Bushfire and Queensland flood relief efforts.
Returning to the stage after a minutes silence in respect of the lives that have been lost, Kylie told the crowd, “I think the minute’s silence probably said more than any of us could say. I’m so thankful I could make it home tonight and share this moment with all of you.”

Kylie then surprised a delighted Melbourne crowd with an unexpected performance of ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ telling them, “I don’t have a band, I don’t have dancers, in fact there aint one feather on me tonight! But I thought this could actually be my biggest gig ever, if you are all prepared to sing with me.”
The line-up for the two concerts included;
Melbourne : Augie March, Bliss N Eso with Paris Wells, Gabriella Cilmi, Hunters & Collectors, Jack Johnson, Jet, Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson, Kings Of Leon, Liam Finn, Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly, Split Enz and Wolfmother.
Sydney : Architecture in Helsinki, Coldplay, Eskimo Joe, Hoodoo Gurus, Icehouse, Josh Pyke, Little Birdy, The Presets and You Am I.
That was wonderful. Thanks for sharing Dave.
Thumbs Up !
Well done Kylie 🙂
she’s so beautiful, and that’s not only because she’s cute ❤
Loved that. Cheers.
it’s great that she came all the way from london to peform that one song
Beautiful.
And best of all – apart from all of the money that was raised obviously – it was a great big two fingers up at all of the people on the forums who slagged her to death when she wasn’t listed on the concert line-up!
Dave 😆
This was so beautiful! Good job kylie!
She still sounds amazing, without a band or backing singers.
This was so sweet ^_^
